So you tried to remove the trim(frame)? Bad idea if so, I would suggest never ever doing this. It's not easy as you found out. There's no need for it anyways. I don't have a clue why it did that though. I've never seen that happen.

Silicone is not made up primarily of vinegar.

I was thinking the same thing. Silicone is an element, therefore it cannot be made up of something else
