I've kept Tanganyikan cichlids and reef tanks for years, but even when I worked in the fish industry pikes were always pretty cool. I was reading a post about someone putting a pair of Crenicichla Regani pikes in a 30 gal and I wasn't sure about pike sizes. I know there are some monsters out there, but are there any non mosterous pikes?

Dwarf Pike Cichlids are similar to the West African Kribs (Pelvicachromis pulcher) in that they are small, often live in very soft, acidic water you do need to PM Peanut-Power her specialist subject is Pike Cichlids I have one an Orange Pike Cichlid in a community tank with fish much larger than its self and its fine but will eat easy thing that it can fit in its mouth and have a good go at beating any thing else up

RRRRG!! I am starting to think I should change my avatar...thats like the fourth time I've been called a chick. Sheesh. Oh well, maybe I'll just put something in my sig..:P.

Crenicichla regani, Crenicichla compressiceps, Crenicichla noto. (hate spellin it) are all relatively common dwarf pike cichlids. They don't get large, max. about 5", but thats pushing it. They have just as much personality as their larger cousins, but just more compact. I've seen people keep them in community tankz with tetras and what not. You gotta use common sense though as they are piscivorus...:P. They are soft water, low pH fish. Some people keep their pikes in 4.5pH and SOFT water, and they just LOVE it. If you aren't wantin to breed them this isn't as much of a concern as pikes will adjust and live comfortably in practically all water conditions.
