the aro is actually beautiful...well the top one is. the bottom one...not so much. how long could it live that way?
 
The lower dead aro, im sure is sort of along the lines of a scab(analogy)its going to eventually keep getting smaller, the aro is goin to keep growing, and it will be less and less noticeable..the flesh may eventually die enough to fall off?

the arowana attached is very much alive though it may be so called "dead" or unable to function and live on its own it is alive, it shares the very blood vessels and arterys with its sibling. So no, its not going to fall off ever, that fish will most likely die of complications before it reaches adulthood.
