i just got a geophagus abalios 7-8" but my tank is bare bottom. i used to have sand but got rid off it a while back and not thinking of putting it back in. will this be a problem because they are sand sifters? tank is 75g.

It's doable for sure. They'll still get the same amount of food, if not more. Only problem with it, is that you are taking away what comes natural for them to do. It's theire instinct.
It's debatable whether or not it's good for the fish, to take away the substrate in the tank with this type of Cichlid.

However, as long as the fish is thriving, i don't see anything wrong with it though.

def works but it takes away from the uniqueness of goes. It's neat watching them sift through the substrate and if you don't have any substrate they can't do it
