Geo ID??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Seller which I deal with a lot and has never tried to pull a fast one states this is geophagus megasema's.

Very few people are experts or even very good at geo ID's at all. I doubt they are pulling a fast one probably just a mistake.

How much are they asking? G. megasema are not very common to say the least so I am curious how they got to that conclusion.

They might not be trying to pull anything, many pet stores simply sell fish under the name they buy them under ... few stores can have a geo specialist, a pike specialist, ect to try and ID everything.

edit: Jk beat me to it.

I am house sitting until wed, so can't check the geo bible to look up the differences for you.

If no one else does by the time I get home, I will. Hopefully someone else will pipe up. Though, $75 sounds a bit high to me even if they were megs.

No need. G. megasema has a massive midlateral spot similar to G. proximus and very thick vertical barring when visible, OP is correct in the very high bodied profile. The OP's fish has thin bisect barring and a small midlateral spot(s). 100% orange head like I first posted. I also agree the price is high either way but very high for an orange head.

I sold my copy of the bible but it should back up the above when your able to check it.

Just because I am curious, what is the Geo Bible you speak of?
