Thanks so much Oddball. I knew if anyone knew about rocks here it would be you, but I didn't think to just pm you the question lol.

Well it puts the information out there for the rest of us. I might use my geodes now. I had some pieces of petrified wood in a tank before. That was fun.

Please tell if its Geode? I placed it in aquarium for 5 hours before my friend asked me to remove it immediately. He said that it will increase the ph and it wont be good for the Snakeheads. My question is.. does this beautiful rock alters water chemistry so soon that it will make your fish ill?

1. No it's not a geode
2. Not sure what it is exactly
3. Also best to start your own posts instead of using a 11year old dead post. You'll have much better results starting your own posts instead of using a dead one. Good chance that most of the members that were originally part of this thread are no longer active.
4. A couple good ways to test if a rock is fish safe is 1. Pour some vinegar on it, if it fizzes it's no good, and 2. Put it into a bucket of water over night and test the water twice, once before adding the rock and once after it's been in for a day, if the water parameters change during that time it's best not to use it as all it will do is leech chemicals into the water.
5. P.s. a geode is a normal rock containing crystals inside like this. FYI this is a pic of a fake geode but still has about the same look as a real one does.

Hope this all helps.

Thanks for the reply and your sharing knowledge brother.
I just searched in google and this thread appeared, hence directly put the question here. I later realised that its 11 yrs old ?
Well, I'd like to tell that I kept freshwater sleeper gobbies in a large bucket with this crystal stone for 3 days but they are living happily with it, no sign of stress or weakness.
I noted your suggestion to start up a new thread.
Thanks

Most geodes are quartz & are aquarium safe. I keep several in my tanks. All sharp edges face down.
Your white rock looks like quartz crystals.

I've kept these crystal types of things in aquariums for a good 6 months now, I do know they also have limestone too but I'm not worried about that in my tanks.
