geophagus aggression help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As already stated brasilliensis arent true geos and are normally too agg for a geophagus/satanoperca set up.

Also IME a general mish mash of geos (1's and 2's of different species) dont really work out long term. I spent the best part of 18 months trying various different geo combinations and it always resulted in me having to return fish to the lfs. Even if it works our for a month or two I have yet to see it work long term.

Now I just keep a two small groups of separate species and so far almost no agg at all.

Just something to consider if things dont work out.

Personally I wouldnt have any of the geos in a tank of that size. You'd ideally have a tank of 48" length minimum. You may get away with a couple of the smaller geo species in a tank of that size but even still if wont be a bit small - just my opinion.

I have a standard 55 gallon tank They could go in if that will make you feel better But it's almost same gallons. I have fish in a 135 gallon tank that will grow out of it eventually so once that happens I'll have a larger tank available

Not stupid, just sometimes takes a little research in where and how our fish live, to house them properly.
Many Geophagus like to live in groups, but in groups of their own species, as opposed to a mixed bag of different species.
I like to keeps shoals of 3 of more females with a male in a tank, or 6 females and 2 males. 2 species may work very work together, especially if kept in groups in a large tank.

This tends to keep aggression at a minimum.
And S America is a very large continent with has many climate zones, from hot equatorial areas in the north, to zones in the south that get quite cold.
Sorry to bring up this old thread, but was wondering what type of eartheater is in the lower left with the solid vertical stripe thru it’s eye?
