Geophagus Altifron

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great looking fish! That Altifron certainly has gotten a lot bigger than the Red Heads, which also look fantastic by the way.

About that Weidner book. I wish someone would just scan the damn thing so we could all enjoy it! lol

thanks! and I would really love to get that book but for the prices of so high I would rather save it for bigger tanks haha

Or better yet, bring out a revised and updated edition and print more than ten of them so they're not so hard to find and expensive.

Agree completely about spending money on fish instead of books too, as much as I enjoy reading about them I enjoy watching them much more!

I was looking up some geos to try and find out what mine is. and I came across this video that the fish in it are identical to mine. but the video said they where Geophagus Surinamensis Rio Maroni and personally I have never seen a "true" surinamensis so I don't know if that's what they are but what ever fish are in this video are the same ones I have. they have the same caudal fin pattern and the same spot on their side. heres the video [YT]LqPFt14RK4Q[/YT] and heres some picture that show some of his colors true the video doesn't really show March 8 2013 (2).JPG February 20 2013 (1).JPG

According to the description of G. surinamensis, it has four vertical parallel bars on its flank. The ones in that video have five or six. So I don't think they are true surinamensis.

I still think the lack of facial markings, the tail pattern, and the relatively small midlateral spot on your fish suggests G. altifrons.
