I picked up x8 of these F1 juvies, I've been looking for this species for years and am REALLY happy I get to work with them!!! This being a rare species (only Central American species in the genus) I thought I would post a progression thread so you guys can enjoy too.

They are in a 55 gallon grow out with 50% WC per day (drip system).

My observations thus far being they are the most rambunctious species of Geophagus I have owned, they are fast growing and the red in the dorsal is very prominent. I can't wait to see how they look in six months.

Thanks! I would love to get my hands on some 1" pellegrini to grow out and compare. Let me know if you know of any?

They look cool, are they related to firemouths?

They are not related to FM's, they are part of the steindachneri complex (hump head eartheaters) within the Geophagus genus.

Never seen these Justin. Definitely gonna subscribe to this one. Which satano do they mostly compare to

I've never seen them until I got them either. They don't really compare to any Satanoperca, different genus.

It's always nice finding species that you have been searching long and hard for. Congrats on the pick up! I've never heard of these guys but I will be following their progression.
