Geophagus Dicrozoster

Wow, that last pic of the first set is amazing ... all those various soft, subtle colors. Are they still about 8" SL do you figure Chaitika?

Thanks, guys. Yes, darth, a full 8" at least.

Unfortunately, this pair did not have the greatest start in life and will probably not grow to their full size. I got them at about the 6" mark and from what I understand, adult size is at least a couple of inches bigger than these.

Peathenster, bigpic and I have tried to figure out the sexes. I've even overfed them to push thier privates down and it looks like they're both males. We originally thought they were boy and girl. Defintely, the fish in question is much more aggressive than the other, but I guess that really doesn't mean too much.

Also note that it's difficult to see the threadfin trailers coming off the fins of the fish in the last pic. I will be pulling that fish and placing him in a different tank to start getting him ready for a local fish show in April, 2010. One of his ventral fins was nipped short. Their ventrals grow to about 8-9", but the two of them won't leave each other alone so he'll need some solitude to grow his fins out nicely. I'll try to get better pics that show the threadfin trailers. .

Well Jeff is MIA. Havent heard from him since yesterday so I dont think my fish went out :irked:

i was wrong. jeff came through as usual and will have pics tomorrow. hopefully they look half as nice as chaitika's.

Can't wait to see how they look! The Dicrozoster's used to be the most common one available, now, they are super rare!
