I've been so bent on getting altifrons. But you know what I really like these guys. The other 3 at shop I think are abalios but he thinks proxysomething. I'm hoping for someone to have identical geos to mine and maybe they have a positive ID on there's. Thanks Justin for taking a stab at it. The one from you is still my favorite. Only thing is I can't get them to eat pellets only bloodworms. Won't even touch chopped up fish.

Give em some time David. Keep feeding them bloodworms (fish crack) and eventually they will come around.

If the shop keep thinks he has G. proximus, look at the midlateral spot on the side, it should be VERY large spot/blotch. Also true G. proximus will have a black mark on the lower cheek area called a preopercular mark. ;) Honestly they are easier to ID than some G. altifrons varients IMO because of the preopercular mark. This is a G. proximus (not my pic)

G. aff. altifrons 'Alenquer' have very uniform striped caudal fin though. David says his have a spotted caudal pattern?

Good point.

Here are some G. aff. altifrons "Maicuru" which have the same overall coloration and body pattern but exhibit the striped tail...

By the way, that proximus pic you posted has got to be in the all time top 10 sexiest fish ever! What I would give to have at least a pair of those!!

You may be right, those also have the bisect lateral barring that was stumping me. Thanks for posting the pics. Oh and I'm with you on the G. proximus they are so sexy aren't they.. Right up there competing with G. winemilleri if you ask me.

So what is the difference between atlifrons and abalios body and head shape wise? I swear atifrons has more of a slope in head shape. Now I haven't looked up many pics of abalios.
