Hey guys,

I just picked up a small geophagus and two other fish. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the exact species of them.

My camera doesn't take pictures that well of fish, they come out really blurry. I did get a couple short video clips though.

Thanks ahead for all the help!

Have fun!

Not too sure ....1 Gymnogeophagus balzani and 2 Geophagus tapajos orangehead?

I think your right but still not too sure. I'm more confident that the single is a G. balzanii. The other two i think are orange heads but couldnt pause the movie quick enough to get a good id photo. I would say they are not surinamensis cuz I think they are big enough to have more pronouced red lines. I'm sure someone with more experience will know tho!!!

Aesop how big are these guys?

Probably about 2 inches at most. The single is only about an inch. They have more coloration, just were new to the tank when I took the vids. The single has like brown stripes all over and the pair has blue iridescent lines and a red striped tail.

They look exactly like this picture when their colors are bright. Note that this is not my picture, but fish that look pretty much identical to the pair I have.

I hope they're Geophagus tapajos orangeheads though...those guys look nice when they're adults!

the one in the back looks like a balzani. can you take pictures? or only video?

Pictures usually have worse quality for me than videos. I took a few, but they all came out too blurry to tell what they are.

Maybe to borrow a friends camera? But since your fish are so small I might wait for them to grow a bit cuz when they are young they are harder to tell apart... at least for me

Yea, I'm starting to think the same thing. No matter what they end up being, they're going to be awesome in my eyes. I'm mostly trying to figure out what the single guy is so that I'll know how big he'll end up getting. So I know how many more, and what types, of fish I'll be adding.

Thanks for all the replies thus far.
