am I seeing things or does the fish in pic 1, 2, 3 have a preopercular mark??

Not seeing things. My only question is, is there usually a mid lateral spot present, or does it just look as if it doesn't have one in the pics? I can't think of a species that has the preopercular mark, and lacks the mid lateral spot. The four wide bars, along with the preopercular spot do make you want to say Winemilleri though :)

Maybe it's just not showing the lateral spot at the moment?

dicrozoster

I was down to dicrozoster or winemilleri...

To the OP - if it develops a Y-belt, which seems likely, it's dicrozoster. If it keeps 4 wide vertical bars, it's a winemilleri. You should be able to tell soon.

I'm late to the show :( your not seeing things at all, i see it too. I've had a number of species that "fade" the midlateral spot when young. I'm with you Peter. The preopercular mark limits the possibilities (thankfully). It does looks as though like the first by is starting to form a "Y" for G. dicrozoater. Still too hard to tell IMO though. I'm not as good with ID's as you are.
