Geophagus jurupari scoots like a goby?

He actually looks pretty poor. His stomach looks flat/sunken in. I'm wondering if he was unhealthy before you brought him home. But it's definitely Satanoperca, and it shouldn't be "goby-like" in its swimming behavior.

You can feed them garlic cut up or Cut up garlic and soak it in the water with their food pellets it will kill internal parasites. Its a common practice with African cichlids considering how the dreaded malawi bloat is believed to be a parasite.

I always do the garlic food soak if a fish is looking a little skinny for no reason.
I actually had a full grown Green Terror about 10 years ago that had some form of swimbladder dissorder, once it hit the 6" mark it would only swim on the bottom like a goby, he would feed at the top and then sink back down to the bottom. Water quality was perfect and he lived for a good 6 years or so and was one of the most beautiful male terrors I had sen at that point.
That being said I believe its more a casae of the fish being stressed than some deformity

Edit, found a pic of the green terror, warning extremely old low res image

Are there special acclimatization procedures for this species?

pH 7
NH3 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 0

At the LFS it was hanging out at the tank bottom, but it was a small tank and it was bare bottomed, so I attributed it to those conditions.

If so, he should be up and about in a few days or so. He's just stressed out from being introduced to a new home.
