Geophagus or Frontosa?

Why not another larger african? What are the dims on your tank is it a 150 tall or long??? If its long you have so many options. Is your plan to have a large centerpiece fish and many smaller fish filling out the tank? You could do a peacock/hap tank, you can google for those. You could do Cyathopharynx furcifer, look them up! There are so so so many options with africans its impossible to choose. I currently have 6 frontosa, they aren't "active" but they kinda take on that serine gentle giant demeanor of other slow moving cichlids like discus, angles, etc. I would propose you try mixing it up. I know that this goes against recommendations but my frontosa burundi are flourishing in a 86 degree tank with a orino pbass and bichir. I would caution against such extremes with the other deeper water frontosa and gibberosa strains but burundi are tanks. Just keep the water clean! Seriously thought the blue of the frontosa really pops against the green for the pbass.

I had my share of frontosa but when you get a good colony in a good tank with proper decor they are just so elegant and serene. You can't find many other similarly sized fish with such a placid demeanor.

Imo fronts are the most common fish people buy, growout, fall in love with, then almost instantly get bored with. How many times have you seen geo colonies for sale compared to colonies of full grown fronts? Id go geos all the way!

Is your water hard or soft?
hard = fronts
soft = geos.

I say build your stock around your water perams since both have pretty far end of the spectrum needs.
