I just picked up 2 red/orange heads, an altifrons, and a braziliensis and there's a GEO WAR going on in my tank! What's up? I thought they were mellow fish. As a child I kept jupari and never had a problem. What should I do? Add more to spread out aggression more?

Add some silverdollars or tinfoil barbs as dithers to stop the fighting. It might stop but it's worth a true.

Brasiliensis are not peaceful by any means - all of the fish are shoaling fish. You need at least 6 of each or they will display odd behavior.

Brasilliensis needs to be redefined under Central American's, they're viciously mean by comparison

:iagree:

With multiple species of eartheaters, you need a tank full of them. I just moved all of my geos out of a tank except for my Rio Tocantins and the agression started before I could acclimate the others into the new tank.

It doesn't matter if its more geos or any other fish, just load up your tank and stick to the water changes!!! They will be happy! They just don't like their own kind is all it is.

Don't bother with dithers, it won't do a thing. All Geophagus can be aggressive towards eachother (minus Brasiliensis which are just plain mean) but it will only ever be short bursts of anger and it will go both ways.

Even with 6 or more of each species you'll still have some direct conspecific aggression as well as aggression between different species of Eartheaters, but Brasilensis aside, they won't do any damage at all with those mouths of theirs.

lol now you know what i go through with my jupari who likes to beat up on my Texas
