I was at the LFS today picking up the last rainbow cichlid from a tank of blue jean Jack Dempseys (he was in hiding, poor thing!) and in the tank there was a small cichlid labeled Geophgus pellegrini. So when I got home I looked it up, and it to see if it would be suitable for my tank, and it turns out true Pellegrini's are extremely rare, and there is not much info about them. I am trying to figure out what species the fish at the store actually is, but I can't find any pictures online that look exactly like the fish, and unfortunately I didn't take a picture of him. It had the distinct shape of the 'Geophagus' complex, and in shape looked exactly like pictures I found of Crassilabris, Pellegrini, and Steindachneri, so I think it is one of these three, since all the other species were the wrong shape. But I can't find any pictures that match the color of this fish. It is only about 1.5-2 inches, so the body has little color (sort of tan-ish yellowish) but the distinctive point was that the mouth was bright red. I haven't found any pictures that show the same type of coloring.
What is your best guess that this species actually is?
