Here.
Hello everyone,

I found that the male and female were guarding a side of the tank. Later found that there were eggs there. There are other occupants in the tank listed in my tank setup on the left.

I have NEVER done this before. What do I do now? I don't want anything to happen to the little guys.

I'm so excited! :nilly:

Thanks!

Best Regards,
Jeff

Tank mates: Black Aro, 2 x Black/Marble Motoro, 2 x NTT, 6x Geophagus Surinamensis

I'm worried about the NTT attacking the fry once they are free swimming.

If my memory serves me right, they are biparental mouthbrooders. They should hold the eggs in thier mouth soon if they are not already. If a fry tank is an option, stripping the fry after they become free swimming is the best option

Usually how long after they hatch and are mouth brooded by the mother, are they free swimming? That way I know when I can try to get her to spit them out.

that i cant tell you. im sure one of the cichlid reference sites would have a very clear cut answer. I have red heads but no experience with them breeding yet, just basic knowledge i have read myself.

G. Tapajos Orange heads are delayed ovophilous mouthbrooder meaning they WILL leave the eggs out for sometime (a few days) before picking them up.

unlike the G. Altifron and the G. Tapajos II they are instant,
