GEOPHAGUS SCHOOLING

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a group of 12 altifrons in my 1400L tank and although I wouldn't call them "schooling" in the true sense of the word they were certainly more social than many other cichlids would be. I think in nature they live in loosely associated groups rather than schools, and pairs probably pair up and become a bit more defensive and separate when breeding. I think keeping them in single species groups is a good idea, but only if you have the tank space...

I completely agree w/ this. I don't think there is any cichlid sp. out there that truely "schools". Maybe live in groups, which is very different.

I'd be worried about the aggression from the flowerhorn, but that aside if you already have one G. albios then the obvious thing to do would be to find another 3-4 more of a similar size.

ok that was my plan. ive never owned geophagus or flowerhorn so im very excited to watch these guys grow! both are about an inch and are in my 55g grow out with a fingerling mono p bass, silver dollars and the oddball a ropefish.

I have a few diff geo types together. They stick to their own kind for the most part. The balzani's hang w/ the balzani's and the altifrons hang w/ eachother.
