Stanz advice is on point, however, don't expect a Dicrozoster or an Abalios Geo to get 12-15", they are typically gonna push 8-9" and stop. Altifrons can get on the larger side, but for the most part these guys typically stay a few inches under 10.
Agreed.I have yet to see any of the above reach more than 8 inches.Still a sizable fish.6 adults will fill the op's tank nicely.
that little female Geo I have been passing around half-assed pix of, looking for an ID is well over 1 year, (6 months in my care) and she's BARELY 4"

Yep, two of my Abalios are around 5-6", wouldn't even begin to guess how old they are. They are attached at the hip, I am thinking that I have 2 of the same gender though, as they haven't shown any signs of breeding and I am pretty sure they are well within their age requirements to do so.

it's weird, in the fish trade "geophagus surinamensis" is used to describe a group of numerous similar looking geophagus. Could really be anything BUT a surinamensis. Im not sure if it's because as juvenile's they are very hard to tell apart. When i brought my abalios to a lfs that sells quite a bit of geo's, i told them it was an abalios, and they said well it's a "surinamensis TYPE" like it was an umbrella of fish. But there is nothing better than a group of adult altifrons just beautiful.
