I have a 150g that is 72x18x27t and was thinking about putting eight geophagus red head tapajos in it. I want to add some blue rams and some clown loaches, but how many could I add? Anything else that I would be able to possibly add to it like tiger barbs or something? Would 8 of the geos be enough or too many? They're only .75-1" right now.

You are fine with the 8 geos.

As for the blue rams, I would only start out with a few since I've heard they are pretty hard to keep.

Clown loaches are a shoaling fish that do best in groups of 6 or more.

I would stay away from tiger barbs. They are a notorious fin nipping fish, and the trailers on the geos would be like candy.. Might try another sort of barb if your looking for the dither effect..

:iagree:

I would stay away from the Barbs all together. With all the other tankmates you listed, those are plenty enough.

Thanks. I've never had any barbs before so I don't know. So I should stick w/ just the geos and the loaches? I'm actually probably getting six geos and one male and one female wild blue ram, all from Ken. Everything will all be about 1-1.5" except the geos which are a tad smaller. If I did just the six red heads, could I add a couple of another geo?

The Rams would be fine with the OH and the Loaches. I wouldn't suggest adding other geos, for longterm matters. Unless you have another tank available for them. Geos do better in groups of their own kind, Altifrons, OHs, etc.

I have Congo Tetras with mine and so far so good. I think something that stays near the top will help fill out the aquarium nicely. Marbled or Silver Hatchets would work. Personally I like the Cochu's Blue Tetra(Boehlkea fredcochui) and would like to get some but I'm not paying 40-60 for shipping for 15 bucks worth of fish. None of my LFS carry them.

Just stay away from fin nippers. The OH will eventually get some nice long trailers.

I like Congo Tetras, I used to have one so I might have to go get some more. I've seen those Blue Tetras, they're nice. I wish I could find some around here. I'll have to check around I guess. Thanks man. Would a pleco work in the tank also? I almost forgot, would some Kribensis work? I saw some at my lfs and they were nice....

Blue rams are a fun fish, especially when you have a couple pairs. In a tank that size I say for for 4-6. They are NOT a hardy fish and will be short lived. If you wife is the "attached" kind then stay away from them. To cover the top of the tank, add color and activity, I would go with a school of rummynose or the neons like you suggested. Anything more might be a bit too much color/activity and look "busy" but it's to each his own. I personally would not go with the clown loaches.

I have almost the same footprint tank in progress right now and it will be 4-6 tapajos, 1 satanoperca (has to be in tank, no choice) dwarf pike pair and sterbae corydoras.
