I just said uaru b/c someone earlier in this thread said they have one w/ their geos. It was JK47, I believe. Yeah, like two rotkeils or something...

so it would be like 8-10 geos, 2 rotkiels, and 25 cardinal tetras. that sound good? oh yeah, like 6 pepper corys if theyll work.

I think that sounds like a nice stocklist. In the end you may need to thin out the herd of geo's like DaveB suggested but you also have the advantage of picking your favorites/establishing pairs if that's your thing. Rotkeils are awesome.
Thanks, JK. I know I'll probably need to thin it out a little eventually. About what size do you think I'd need to do it? I'm still undecided on the uaru and the rotkeils. I'll ask the wife which one she likes so she can feel like she's part of the process, 
In my experience the uaru will do just fine singly once it's full grown, but when I got mine @ around 5" or so it was very shy. If you're starting with young ones I'd get a group. With severums or chocolates you can have 1, no problem.
Also since festivums came up...I would get one or a group. I have 2 and there's a fair bit of aggression between them. They don't do harm, and in your tank it would probably be fine, but they're not that big and they look good in groups anyway.
