I think a definitive answer, in this case, would come with some explanation.

No problem. Geophagus "Tapajos Orange Head" is the only Geophagus with paired bars down the side (like in Gymnogeohagus balzanii). You can also look at all the fins for a perfect match with Orange Heads, most notably, the tail has stripes that branch. As I (and Peathenster) mentioned, they just don't have orange heads right now. It is not uncommon for females to lose it when recovering from breeding or if conditions aren't optimal for long periods of time.

Just to provide an example:

They lose most of the orange on the head when guarding fry:

Same two fish when they spawned again but before the eggs hatched. They had even more orange before spawning but I didn't take a video.

Your video pair with fry is beautiful

Nice explanation Ed. I know it sucks explaining your answers, but I think its better to explain how you came to your conclusion so whoever is asking will know for future reference..(and so I can know, lol) Thanks!

Thank you!

I will see what more water changes and some new frozen foods will do for the color.

I appreciate the time taken to answer me.

I believe they are orange heads. The blue in their fins are alot more fluorescent than any abalios or altifrons. How big where they when you got them? I had some for a while and they hardly grew ( they are usually a smaller species) One female showed alot of color and the rest hardly did.

They're red head Tapajos for sure. If you look at the head of the fish on the left of the first picture, you can see signs of HITH.

The red comes up when the fishes are stabilised and in breeding condition.
