Geophagus winemilleri and Satanoperca daemon tank

Tremendous! The Geos would get so much more respect if people were able to see this quality from them as babies in the shops. Patience is not something the average person has! :)

Great fish and aquascape, Peter!

Armand - you could probably get away with the winemilleri (or other altifrons-types) but daemon really, truly are picky with regard to water. My local water is a little hard and alkaline (not too bad), so I need to ensure that there are enough tannins in the water for them.

I lost a couple of big ones in my group from skin infections by doing too many water changes - dilluted the tannins in the water too much without replacing them. I use Indian Almond leaves and they seem to do the trick...

Matt

Love the vid! Too bad my hard and high pH water here in Cali won't house most Geos without getting a RO or DI unit.

thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the kind words :)

Matt is right that Geos are in general more tolerant of harder water than S. daemon. Some species (e.g. orange heads) actually look uncomfortable when my pH drops below 5 and I have to bump it up slightly.

Your winemilleri and daemon are stunning. I have a pair of winemilleri that were 1" when purchased and 8 months later are about 4". Yours are HUGE--how old are those fish, and when should I expect to see mine coloring up?
