I love all astyanax sp., but they are hard to find. How about serpae and/or lemon tetras? Beautiful and active.
yes...but I'm having trouble finding a fish to go with RHs..
Like jamntoast said Diamons mix well..stil they're mid to low leve swimmers aren't they?

mine stay at the mid-top mostly, I think they learn to stay out of the way so they spend most time at the top. I've seen lemons (Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis) with rh taps that look nice, and there are a Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis variant labeled "Bolivian" (but I read they are actually collected from the Tapajos) that are orange, if you are looking for some fish to match
some of them look like Colombians and Buenos Aires to me![]()
I have been considering Lemons , But some threads say they don't school well...I noticed the same with the Colombians I have...
Yes they do look similar. And astyanax sp. don't school well either. They can be a bit nippy even w/ large cichlds. My two spots are about 6". They ate a lot of my HRP fry.
Rummy nose tetras seem to school well,
Nice tank!I've recently set up community aquarium and i keep two Geophagus Heckeli with few other species eg:
Royal Pleco
Electric Blue Acara
Blue Ram
Few young Angels
3 Discus
Two young 4" Electric Blue Jack Dempsies
Some of them will need to get rehomed , but so far during 2 weeks I havent noticed any fights. My Angels follows Geophagus. Looks like they swim in their shadows. Geophagus occsionaly pick on each other but most of the time they swim in the middle and bottom of the tank digging in the gravel. They do great thought with Electric Blue Acaras. Only problem I've noticed so far is during the feeding time. More agresive EB Acaras get to the food faster and eat most of it. My tank is heavily planted, providing plenty of hiding places used by Angels mostly. Geophagus Heckeli and EB Acaras are outside almost all of the time. Surprisingly EBJD likes to hide and chase after each other but they swim along the tank preety often.

Nice tank!
I also keep Rams...
for some reason I didn't like Acaras...and discus need to be in groups...having 2 groups of large fish didn't seem right to me...
thanks for your reply!
I never thought about keeping large group of Geophagus or Discus. Tank is designed to house 2EBJD. Slowly growing monsters; -). Most
Angels and Discus will end up in new aquarium.
Time will show but I hope that my EBJD will get along with Geophagus and EB Acaras in current tank. Hope on easing them out by groving them in community aquarium.
My conclusion is that Geopagus seems to ignore anything swimming next to them. It should be easy to keep them with other species not beeing thread to them.
