I don't get pics of this guy very often, he's the single most camera shy fish I have. Which is too bad, because he's also one of my favorites. I bought him a year ago as a G. surinamensis, and we all know he very highly likely is not. He's about 5.5" or so now. Anyone have any idea on exactly which species he really is? Maybe altifron?

How can you tell it's not G. surinamensis? I saw Rich selling a trio once and his had the white streamers that yours is developing.

Whatever sp it is, it's gorgeous!

Are you feeding FD/FT krill or plankton? I recently started feeding that to mine a week ago, and their red is already starting to develop better.

George is beautiful (as is the pic)

I don't know that he's not a suri, I'm assuming he's not a suri because he was a random pickup at a local store in a very lame town, lol, and suris are very uncommon. Most fish sold are surinamensis aren't actually, they're a similar-looking Geo species (hard to tell them apart as juveniles). Which is why I'm looking for opinions from Geo experts out there :)

Thanks for the comments all.

Oh, and no, no krill or plankton. Basic colour (not hormonal!) flakes sums up his diet ;)

WOW that is a stunning example of the species :)

We should make that the sp. description lol j/k If you find out what George is, hit me up yeah? I've got two juvies that look just like him, but I didn't know suri's were rare, so now I don't know what they are   .
