Hi. I have another thread going about sev tankmates but am thinking going with geos. I wanted feedback from geo folks about the idea therefore this additional thread.
The tank is 120 gallon 4x2x2 with sand substrate and plants (the sevs decided which stayed and which went) and driftwood. It was previously a discus tank. Temp 82, ph 6.8 lots of water changes and 2 xp3s for filtration.
Current inhabitants are one adult koi angel, 2 bns, 2 rescued/damaged very mellow adult gold sevs (1m/1f but not mating. each about 5/6 inches)., 1 juvie sev rotti (might be rehomed) and 4 young pearl gourami.
I saw a beautiful tank of angels and geos on another site and have fallen for the geos if they are available to me and if they will work in a 4 foot tank even tho its 120 gallons.
So opinions please from those of you who have geos knowledge as to how many and what kind might work..
Thanks in advance to everyone for their thoughts. Sue

I'm no expert on Severums but I have seen many tanks with both Geos and Sevs. You will not be disappointed when you buy any kind of Geophagus. They are very nice to sit back and watch.

But with your current inhabitants, I would steer away from Geophagus Brasiliensis. They get very large and are very aggressive.

My fav of the Geos are Geophagus Tapajos "Oranghead"(most call them redheads, notice my avatar:D) and any type of Geophagus Altifrons. The Oranghead will grow to about 7" and the Altifrons will be around 8-10" with beautiful trailers. Their aggression is next to nothing, just a little chasing and flaring of their gills, though mine rarely ever chase at all.

Hope I helped;)

Gee thanks youall for the feedback.:D:D:D. I really appreciate it.
Titansfever83 thanks for the great Rapps site. Is that where you get your beautiful fish?? I would love to see more pics of your setup. How many geos do you suggest if I go with Tapajos, albalios or red humps??
Sooo how many should I get and what ratio m/f. I;m sure you can't tell sex as juvies so do I just hope it works or what.
Those of you with 4 foot tanks how many and what kind of geos do you have??
Peathenster I see you are also in Ga. What part and where do you get your geos???
I've never ordered fish thru the mail before..I've always gone to the breeders what do youall advise??
If any of you have pics of your tanks I would love to see them.
Thanks again for the quick response. Any additional info you can give me would be great as, altho I've raised discus, I've never even seen an adult eartheater (not counting bolivians which I've had). Take care Sue:D:D:D:D

I am in Athens and got mine from a lfs. They have red humps and jurupari (not exactly a geo but...). They are also pretty good at ordering things for me - the owner handpicks fish every week so I don't have to worry about the quality....I don't have to buy them if I don't like them. It's called "Aquarium outfitters" (http://www.aquarium-outfitters.com/).

Get a group of redhead geos and maybe some small acaras along with the severums, would make for a fantastic display

Ill chip in too.

Body shape is SOOO differant, that they actually do ignore each other.

I have 2 sevs, both knocking on about 9" now, with a group of Geo sp "Aeros"

Apart from the odd spawning, they get on perfectly in the same tank as yourself (even down to the Sevs picking their favourite plants ;) )

I keep mine with 6 Corydoras Julii and there is no problems what so ever.

Best of luck - hope you dont like smooth sand and perfect decorations ;) the geos will cover everything in sand eventually.

rapps has them and NEcichlids has them also i just ordered one they have them on special today... putting mine in with severums
