Oregon, it's part of 'Murica!
I am starting up a Ram tank with a male and female German Ram. I am fairly knowledgeable on rearing fry but need to know a little on getting them spam.

1. How do you sex them? I hear that males typically have raised spines at the front of the doral and that females have pink bellies. Is this true, are there other distinguishing features to sex them?

2. What age or size will they start to pair off and breed? Any info you can give me on when they are ready?

3. Do you need to drop the pH to get them to spawn? What is a safe way to drop the pH? Does the pH need to be lower for the fry or just to get them to spawn.

Any other info or experiences with breeding them is welcomed and wanted.

This is the male I have:

A red belly for the females is a dead giveaway. Bump your temp up to 80, clean water, and a flat stone won't hurt. They probably won't figure it out for a few times (eat eggs),
so if that keeps happening, you may have to separate adults from eggs after fertilization.
Once they pair up and start laying eggs, expect a batch about every 3 weeks. As far as age goes, I think as long as the female has a red belly, she's good to go. I once put a new female in a tank, she paired up with a male and was laying eggs within 24 hours.
