They are born blind and black, probably a genetic defect from its parent, its not clear if the color is due to it being blind as a side effect.

But you would not notice this at feeding time, they are probably compensating by developing their olfactory more sensitive than normal.

Thanks JustinDavis, i got the turtle at 3inch it has grown to 4 inch, his more partial to fish fillet than veggies, so far his ok, i have seen him twice where his head was inside my weeksii mouth,
then released after 1 minute with no visible injuries, i do hope he grows fast at paced with my bichirs, my weeksii snaps at anything.

But the Indo has gotten Territorial and has staked out one side of the tank, the Uaru are then relegated to the other side.

Yup the dark colouration is due to it's blindness. They change their colours base on the surrounding, like substrate. Bichirs ain't the smartest of fishes. It doesn't know that its blind. Simply thinks it is in a dark environment like a cave etc. Hence it trys to blend in by turning dark.
Do a search around here, some of the polykeepers here have beautiful black endli which are blind.

just to consolidate everything this is the full shots of my 300 gal tank.
