How long have you had these Oscars? If you provide them with proper tank space, perform regular water changes, and feed quality food, your Oscars will grow steadily. There are risks that come with using feeder fish as food such as bacteria and parasites. A lot of time the feeder goldfish/roseys sold at pet stores are not kept in pristine conditions. They also naturally provide little nutritional value, mainly fat. A good pellet as a staple diet is best. Overfeeding to promote growth isn't good for the fish long term. Having a big fish doesn't mean it's healthy. Provide a proper diet and your Oscars will grow and stay healthy.

ive had my tiger oscar since h was like 2" or so, and the albino ive had for few months at least she was a rescue ..... and ye si do know the risk with feeder fish,, which is also why i breed my own (convicts and JD's) as for pellet food i feed NLS 4.5mm floaters and NLS 10mm sinker pellets, tetra cichlid carnivore sticks, worms... water changes are 80-90% weekly every sun or sat whenever i have the time ... my tiger oscar was growing like a SOB for awhile then now he seemed to have hit a wall ...

If you have had the Tiger Oscar for around four months and it is currently 6" or so, its growth rate is steady and on par for a healthy Oscar. You're getting an inch of growth per month. At this rate it should be 12" in a year or pretty close to it. I don't think you have a problem. Sometimes fish will have slight changes in their growth rate as juveniles. Growth can also be hindered by the presence of a more dominant fish like your larger Oscar. That's why small fish will usually have an increase in growth when separated from dominant or aggressive tankmates. They feed easily and are less stressed. But i don't think your Tiger Oscar is growing slowly if its grown from 2" to 6" in a couple of months.

Ok. It's nearly Aug. so your Oscar has grown from 2"-6" in five months. I still think that your Oscar is doing fine. Just keep up with the water changes that you are doing and providing a good staple diet. After a full year in your care I'm sure your Oscar will be at or near 12". There's really no need to worry. Keeping him healthy is the most important thing.
