Getting a 300gal for $200 (with hood)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You seem to be in every thread that I make Malawi! If you remember, I was the one on about the 90gal. I'm getting this one instead obviously, and I'm thinking this for stocking:

2x Oscars (Probably a black and a albino, for variety!)
2x Dempseys
2x Green Terror
1x Texas Cichlid
1x Longnose Gar
3x Pictus Cats
1x Spiny Eel
1x Black Ghost Knife
1x Albino Sailfin Pleco
2x Severums

All of these are available to me right now.

Starting out with probably a FX5, and going to add a 2x AC110s when I can. It'll only be 3-5 fish for the first 2-3 weeks, then I can throw on the AC110s. What are your thoughts on this?

Im everywhere. :nilly:

well a 90g to a 300g is NICE improvement. Im very pleased to hear this. That is a nice stock list.. I would be satisfied with it, and if you ever find a nice fish you want or need to have, you will have room to throw him in.. Better to understock it first that way in the near future your not limited.

THAT'S understocking? I figured I'd be overstocking that to hell!!!

The guy is right down my street, he gets back on Monday. I'm scared to see how big this tank is actually going to be (like 8ft x 2ft x 2.5ft right?) Oh god that's huge. Any other suggestions for maybe some top feeders or bottom feeders? I figure the pictus and sailfin will fill out the bottom well, same with the BGK. The only top feeder I have is my big gar. Should I snag two gars or leave it with the one?

IMO, with good filtration and water chages, you can house more fish than that list... I mean a 300g is a great size tank.. Like you said, try to mix it up with top, mid and bottom fish.. Wouldn't wanna get all fish in the mid.. haha. Are you getting all the fish as juvies or what size?

oh and that size is about right, 8'x2'x2.5

All juvies :)

Here's the sizes that I know (most are in the store I work at, a couple are at another)

2x Oscars (2-3")
2x Dempseys (2")
2x Green Terror (2")
1x Texas Cichlid (1.5")
1x Longnose Gar (3")
3x Pictus Cats (2-4")
1x Spiny Eel (4-5")
1x Black Ghost Knife (3" or so? Haven't seen it in a week, in another store)
1x Albino Sailfin Pleco (3-5")
2x Severums (3-4")

Plywood is cheap and will flex. You might as well go without anything on top of the blocks if you're just planning on plywood. If doing cinderblocks, I'd go with the six legs (one for each corner and one each in the middle of the front and back). Then I'd go with a 4x4s running lengthwise.

call up a metal fabrication shop and see if they could weld up a metal stand for yeah.
