Getting a 55 gallon!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
GT should stay alone. Once i had a GT and it put my oscar in the corner and beat it up. The oscar was two!!!!!!!!!!! times its size

Iv Got a GT that gets beat up but a oscar half its size, it depends on each individual fish. Go a head i did a almost the same thing with my 55g with 2 more fish, the bigest is 4inches, untill the out grow it i have saved enougth for a 300g they r going to go in once they r bigger and i move out in around 16 months.

but still fish as juvies they will grow to set size lets say its a oscar ok a good healthy oscar can grow to 12 inch's in a year if taken care of but then after that year it will grow like maybe 2 inchs every year after that. im so sick of hearing ppl flame other ppl on these forums i mean seariously. all fish grow fast as juvies that becuz its how they survive in the wild. but thats besides the point it takes a while for a fish to grow to its max size im talkin over 4 years..... alot can happen in that 4 years so ppl need to stop flaming other ppl on oooo ur tank is to small for this big fish... even tho its past its juvie growth spurt. stfu plz keep your opion to urself let him keep his fish in which tank he wants.

I don't think anyone was flaming. Giving honest answers to a question, maybe, but letting someone know that a particular fish will get a certain size.. .I don't see that as flaming. And no one is stopping him from putting whichever fish he wants into his tanks. Also, it could save him trouble later if those fish do get big faster than he anticipated. It could be worse. . . The Wal-Mart in my town has a picture of a pacu in 55 in their fish dept. The fish is like 2'+ ! :(

As for an answer to the question at hand, texas, Jack dempsey, cuban cichlids would work in a 55 by themselves. Personally, I have seen numerous photos of GT's reaching 10-11". One thing I do to decide what fish to put in my tanks is to take a tape measure to the end of the tank, and measure the distance on the inside of the glass. I think most people will agree that most tanks actually have about 1" less space on the inside. Bottom line, if the fish is healthy, who cares? There's a video on youtube of a guy who had a 12" oscar in a 30G, and the fish was perfectly healthy. He later moved it o a larger tnak though. ;)

Thanx lobsters, I truly appreciate that. I know that a GT can get up to 10-11 inches. I know, I looked up the information. Hell I didn't even know it was a GT at first I bought 2 "Acaras" at the LFS and found out a week later that it wasn't even one.

I could have easily have taken it back and got my money back but I researched it and found out that they do get big. But a 29 gallon tank will do plenty for now. The only other fish in the tank is it's mate the actual acara which is maybe 2 1/2 inches if that. I mean as lobster said It's not going to get to that 11 inches in a year and even if it does , I haven't even had the fish for 3 months yet. I mean I could easily and will if it does start to get real huge and starts to suffer in the 29 get a bigger tank. I mean I'm not a heartless careless person I will try to make it have as good as a life as i can possible provide for it.

But thanx everyone who has helped, and thanx for nothing who have came to my post and the first thing they thought was that Hey what tank does he have, theres no way a GT can live in a 29. But thanx alot for everyone who has helped and thanx again Lobster. :)

Thanx blue gryffin I know people are just trying to help but my gosh, some people think that everyone doesn't know how to care for their fish.
