Getting a 600 gallon stock tank through a standard door

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Uh... Wouldn't bending your tank be kind of bad for it? I've never seen a tank that bends

Not a fish tank, stock tank....

About this time last week I had a plan to put just as large of stock tank in my basement.
But although the doorway was almost high enough, there was really no way for me to get the stock tank up the stairs to the front of my house.

Even the new plastic stock tanks that are in the 1200- 1800gal size weigh in at far more than one guy can lift alone.

So I got my friend "Bud" a coworker from work to help me.

The idea I came up with was to push the stock tank up the hill in front of my house to a point where we could turn it free and allow it to just run down the hill by itself, across the yard, up the front stairs and right up to the door where we would stop it .

It sounded like a good idea to me and Bud...

The first place we ran into trouble came at the moment when we had finished pushing the stock tank to the very top of the hill in front of my house.
It had been very hard to push the stock tank all 4 blocks up the hill, so I decided to tell Bud that we should do "lunch" before we did anything.

However instead of "Lunch" Bud thought I said, "launch" and so thinking I had told him to start the stock tank on it's way down the hill, he gave it a real big push.

I didnt see the tank for a few seconds untill it had already taken out the Swanson's mail box.
"Chunk" and it flat as a pancake...

I was thinking at the time that I really should be more upset, or atleast try to stop the stock tank, but I was just so fascinated at the speed the tank had reached by now.

It was even headed in the right direction Im glad to say, until it hit some sort of small pebble and began to vear off to the right.

It continued across the lawns of a few of my neighbors when it made a final turn and approached the house of old Miss Shallstead.
It was the funniest thing you have ever seen, the way this monster stock tank went right up her front steps to her house and obliterated her so-called "storm door".

The police later estimated the speed of the stock tank as it entered the Shallstead kitchen at over 60 mph!
(Now face it, that is cool)
Mrs Shallstead had just finished doing the dishes right at that moment when she heard the noise of most of her living room being "tanked" as we came call it.

(Services for Mrs Shallstead will be at 1:00 Pm Tuesday at Saint Judes Lutheran.)

After exiting the Shallstead residence, via a new Stock tank-shaped rear kitchen door, the tank continued across several more back yards before it arrived at the "Lets Ride Em!" horse farm.

Do you know that not even one of them horses had time to let out so much as a "Womph".....
(interesting but kinda sad too in a way.)

The stock tank finally did come to a stop and later after the guy at the city impound lot made sure my paperwork was right, I managed to get the stock tank back.

But my biggest problem right now is that the stock tank is all pitted along the outside edge from hitting picket fence and has that odd little stain on the one side.
Some people say the stain looks like the baby Jesus, but I see more of an old lady's face in it.

Anyway, it's been a long night tonight as I worked on buffing all the pits out of the outer edge of the stock tank and so it's ready for another attempt to get it inside the house.
I hope I can make the turn with it in my living room so it's lined up right to head down the basement stairs.

Do you think that perhaps Bud is right and that if we lift it up and drop it down via the skylight that we would get the thing in the right position faster?

He has a pilot licence so it's doable.....

Didn't you want a new sky light anyways? Perfect time for some re-modeling and for Bud to renew his chopper license. Although I might try the hill one more time, but then you might be in for some more buffing which is time consuming. Or..... cut in half making two half moon shaped ponds up against the wall. One could have a nice lion head above it making it the return. The other a small cherib w/his pecker as the return. You have truely inspried me to take the monster stock tank plunge. I thank you sir.

P.S. could you plese PM the address for the funeral home to send flowers to Mrs. Stallsen's family.
