Getting a big cat out of the tank

use a contractor grade bag....get them at most hardware stores...also like the cooler idea, but i guess that depends on what options you have for coolers, i have a bunch of different sizes from fish purchases. towel idea would work, more like moving a whale or dolphin, but the principle is the same. in short, the constant answer is to get most of the water out of the tank to limit mobility of the fish, and then don't use anything that might cut or tangle the fish.

I've moved a similar sized rtc by just grabbing it barehanded. I wouldn't recommend it though. I usually use a koi sock net even when I move my 38" rtc x tsn. If you get a tight mesh one you can grab the fish and water at the same time, but a tail slap in the face is smarts! 18-20" catfish are relatively easy to move. They are still small enough not to be bothersome. Just lower the water level down til the dorsal is out of the water when you go to net him. Have a cooler or similar vessel full of water ready to take him. A clean pillowcase would work as well. Just watch the spines as stated earlier. My hybrid tried to get me once, but his spines are so thick it couldn't puncture the skin, but left a nasty bruise for a month!!!
