I just bought a 9" clown knife from a person on CL. The fish has been eating feeders since he was 3". I would like to get him to eat frozen food or live worms. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might entice him? Any methods? Or am I pretty much doomed to buying feeders?

dont give him feeders and offer cut tilapia instead.it took mine 1 day but some take 1 to 2 weeks before they take it.once on another food you can offer other foods.

Thanks. :) I haven't given him any feeders. I've never bought feeders for any of my other fish and I don't want to start now. I offered him beef heart today and he wouldn't take. I think I'll try tilapia and silversides tomorrow.

both good things to try get him on.once he takes food close to live you can then move further from there to frozen and etc.

I have a clown knife that wouldn't eat anything but feeders but what you have to do is take frozen blood worms drop them in some warm water really quick and don't squish them with your fingers just move them around so that they start to dangle off but make sure they don't all come apart then just placed the cube of blood worms right in front of where your clown knife hides and make sure the water flow is good so that worms look like they're moving and hopefully he will come eat it like mine did. Keep me posted

It may take awhile, but starve it. Try feeding it frozen shrimp or cut pieces of fish every 3 days to see if it'll take it. If not, remove uneaten food and try again in a week...again...no feeding during this time until it takes it. Usually will take a couple of weeks to a month. Depending on who holds out longer, lol!

Thanks everybody. He refused to eat the silversides. I dropped them in there, left them in the tank over night, and even tied one to a string to replicate a fish swimming. Nothing. I've tried shrimp and he won't eat that either. I'll try blood worms next. Has anyone ever had luck with live worms?

Mine eats almost anything he sees, I never had troubles from day one with his diet. Your fish is just picky lol keep trying. Have you tried the garlic food soaks? Supossed to be for enticing pickey eaters to take the food as well as provide them with some extra vitamins, iv always had good luck with garlic.
