who said he wasent going to do research,he was just asking for ideas, lighten up kid.:screwy:

hes just saying do your research so i dont end up with something i dont want.

I have no intention of hiding it from my parents. gona put it right in my room ontop of my computer stand.

the tank I will have up there will be if i had to do a quick guess 4ft long, 1 ft wide. dosnt matter on the height can be anywhere from 1' to 4'.

I can always keep this outside if it needs a bigger house.

also, I do know that in most species of snake, its the female that gets larger. I'm not a complete noob when it comes to animals, just one when it comes to what would be best for me.

I dont want a snake bigger than me, its just something I cant do :D. ( i'm 5'11 ).
so anything around 4ft would be great.

Hahaha... I didn't want a big snake too when I started out... but I ended up getting a 5' boa... then a 6' Carpet Python.... and another 6' boa.

Height and size doesn't have anything to do with it, it is temperament and weight.

weights not to much of a problem. it can easily hold me and i'm 150lbs.

Alright... do you have a favourite snake or certain regional group that you like? Just ignore the size limitation for now, and we will try to match it.

So you like boids (pythons and boas), right? Is there a specific kind of boid?

what about a rosey boa or a sand boa of some sort? kenyan sand boas have a lot of nice color to them. i think females get maybe 24 inchs. i think i read up to 30 inches. i like the rough scaled sand boas too! i think size is similar.

hog nosed snakes also stay small and are a neat snake.

Got your PM.
Very flattered hehe.
You could easily house a Royal (Ball) Python in the tank you suggested. Sure they can reach 5 feet, but I've not seen a female yet thats much over 4'. Males TEND to stay at 3 foot.
I love Royals for the simple fact their size and girth is just right for a budding python owner who doesn't want something too big. And also that they are generally 'tame' from the word go...if a little nervous (though obviously you get exceptions, but picking out a 'tame' individual should be no problem).
Feeding wise, I've been lucky with my Royals (now three of them, including a pastel, if you like the better coloured/morphed snakes) they have refused feeds before, but usually just when they're coming into shed, and I've had 2 of the three take feeds in the blue (don't know about the pastel as I've only had him three days).
If you can see them feeding before hand (which a responsible seller will have no objections to) your all set, as they are very easy to care for snakes after that.

Some royals have an off shed every now and then, where they do it in pieces, whether your conditions are right or not, but it usually creates no problem, and most shed well even without added humidity round that time.

Handling wise, they will usually stay put if they're wrapped round your neck, however if you put them down on the bed or the like, they'll quickly sliver off to get away. Whilst tame, they usually stay nervous throughout their lives, shying their head away from you and such.

If you would like something a little more 'brave' a kingsnake could be for you. However, they do get to around 5' and usually are always on the go. Though they prove excellent shedders and feeders, again, one would do great in the size tank your thinking.

Other choices are

  • Kenyan Sand Boa's
  • Mexican Rosy Boa's
  • Corn snake's (though these can reach 5' and don't sit still LOL)
  • Rat snake's (as above)
I think Blood pythons get around 4-5' (maximum) but they have a pretty big girth too. Temperement wise, they start off snappy as babies but usually tame down quickly. I'm not sure how they are as feeders, though Lovespunaround is experienced with these, and will answer any questions you have on them.

Personally, from the description you provided, I think a mexican rosy boa, kenyan sand boa, or royal is for you.

Snakes, whichever one you choose, are a dream to own, so fasinating and beautiful, hence why I have 6 and alot less lizards! LOL.
Long essay I know, but I hope it helped :)

Forgot to add, A hognose could be for you also.

Handling wise, I've only had one that my ex now has, and it was OK to handle at first (if a little hissy) but went very vicious toward the end and bit several times. This would be avoided by picking and already tame one obviously, though they can be hissy until you get them out of the tank, usually its just a bluff anyway.
Feeding wise, they are fab feeders, until around october + they start to go off feed (in the UK anyway - we think over here it's because of the change in season/weather) I'm not too sure about the US but its something to think about. :) They are otherwise easy snakes that don't present much hassle.

There are way too many snakes out there with their own little quirks and characteristics...

Some are arboreal, some stay to the ground; some are nice, some are high strung; some are skinny, some are fat and some are in-between. Some people like specific things... like I got a weird liking for African colubrids, but I don't like any other colubrids except for Pituophis (Gophers and Pines) and Drymarchon (Indigos and Cribos)
