I've been looking to get N ramsdeni for over 20 years and not been able to access them. Because of the Cuban embargo and restrictions on travel, the only way to get them is thru Europe or Canada.
Another I've been wanting is Iranocichla hormuzensis, from southern Iran, not the easiest place to get in and out of spot at the moment.
I did see just males offered not too long ago, but just having males seems a bit of a dead end for me.
i agree. You'll have better luck with Dwarf Cichlids, Angels, and things more community like.
Another route would be africans.
The planted side of hobby is taking off so smaller fish are all in vogue.
Big cichlids only work out if you have a good variety of rare fish and can ship. Even then, the established guys have control of the market and it'll be tough getting in.
Im an Akron guy as well. Dont breed dovii. Unless ur planning on giving entire spawns away for ~$40. Cubans might be ok, but i know of a pet store on West MKT St that sells them. My best guess would to breed less common vieja. Honestly this area has a pretty good selection of fish, so if you were really serious about making cash, you will probably have to import some exotics.
From Akron as well...about 12 years ago everyone started shifting toward Africans...
And it has stayed that way.
Then take into account a lot of specialty shops like Wet Pets and Aster pets...[Where I worked.]Closed.
If you want to seriously look into it start with a few smaller centrals, HRPs sajica etc. and see if you can sell the fry.
