Getting back into the hobby- need suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the feedback, it looks like I'll be going with another Trimac for the 75 gal. I loved the first one that I had and I expect one from TUIC to be just as entertaining and hopefully as beautiful as the first one.

guess I am going to have rain on the parade. 14 inch fish has no place in a 75g, you want 180 to a 220 for that. depending on more than one or not, I would do the convicts, if looking for more than one or perhaps some Africans. JD pair do ok in a 75g also.[/QUOTE

Pops, I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Not everyone has the ability to own a 180 or 220, and neither do I. My Trimac really fit perfectly in the 75 that I owned previously and it never seemed that moving around within the tank ever took much effort. 75 gallons is usually plenty for a Trimac as they usually max out around 15 inchs, any more than that and, yes, I would agree that he would need a bigger tank maybe around the 120 range for a single fish.

Again, thanks everyone for the feedback. I'll be moving to my new job in mid-July. When I get a tank up and running I'll get some pictures posted!

Thanks everyone, I really lucked out with him he's a real bull but not overly aggressive.

I remember seeing marbled cons years ago when I was new to the hobby, didn't buy them, kicking myself now as I never see them anymore. Also I'd +1 the flowerhorn suggestion, might be more manageable than the trimac in a 75...

I personally haven't had much luck with flowerhorns, they just seem to be genetically weak. Every time I've gad them (3) they just seem riddled with health problems. I also find trimacs a much more attractive fish. Just my opinion of course.

I grabbed this marbled con at about 1/2" from big als and he just turned into a beauty, I won't be parting with him anytime soon, great personality as well
