Getting dead fish out of artificial driftwood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can use a pressure washer to try and flush the pleco out assuming it's a through hole. A regular hose may work too if the pressure is high enough. Otherwise, your best bet may be to soak the driftwood outdoors and let the body disintegrate.

I feel so sorry for you. What kind of pleco was it? You could try an acid dip. (don't ask me what kind of acid though) See if it'll disintegrate the fish but that might damage the decoration.

Thanks, It was a common pleco. I will start with pressure wash.

You don't by any chance happen to have a pressure washer do you? If so you could just keep blasting water inside and eventually it should tear the body up.

Thanks, I will try this first.

Find an anthill.

Thanks, That's pretty creative but I don't think I can right now.

Help! I haven't seen my gold gourami in 3 days. I believe he is stuck in my piece of hollow driftwood. I picked up the driftwood and twirled it around and spun it upside down but he still didn't come out! How can I safely get him out of there if he isn't dead already? The only other possibility is he jumped out and my dog ate him but I don't see how he could have jumped out and made it to the front of the tank because the dog can't reach him from the behind the tank as it's up against the wall.

Ugg... I feel for you both. I had same thing happen to me. Was moving tanks and didnt realize one of my spotted Raphaels was still in a log decoration . I ended up not putting the decoration back in the tank and later discovered he was in there. I can just barely see his tail but can't grab a hold if it good enough to pull out. I'm going to try blasting it with the garden hose.

oof. So sorry.

I lost my first clown loach because he was hiding between some petrified driftwood and I didn't see him when I took them out. A few months later I found a nicely pressed clown loach between the pieces of petrified driftwood, similar as to how one presses a flower in a book.

I once rearranged my tank and pulled out a huge bunch of java fern and put it in a bag.
About a week later I replanted it in the tank anda very annoyed looking upside down catfish swam out of it. Never new he was in there and don't know how he survived out of water for that long ,he still lasted a few more years after that adventure!
