Exactly. i wanted an SLR too at first, then i read into the reviews and prices and i have found a few other options. There are many cameras out for 300$ with 10 megapixels plus, but who knows how well the camera is put together. So then i found the Kodak p880 and i found it is dock compatible, it can be used with a camera printer to print photos at home, and its only 350$ for the cam. i wish one person on here, had a p880 so i could just get the thumbs up. i really like the pictures rallysman takes with his kodak. Im sick of the nikon coolpix, it sucks!~

thanks for trying ot help guys

Don't get caught up on mega pixels. Look at other features that interest you and the shutter speed is important, especially when taking pics of moving fish. Most printers and computers can't even register 10 Mega pixels. I compared pictures I took with 3 mega pixel camera to my friends 10 mega pixel and you could tell no difference. Unless you have super expensive computer and pro printing equipment 5 mega pixel is max you need. I would focus(no pun intended) on zooms quality andother features.

Correct:)

Like I said before, MP is irrelevant if the rest of the camera sucks.
I like 6MP or so, just for cropping purposes.

That is the same info I found also. The only way you would really need 10 m is if you were to print them with high quality paper and a nice printer. For emailing and personal pics on the comp, 5 or 6 is great.

maybe a canon s3is or canon g7. both are good point and shoot cameras and have a lot manual features that you can use to learn on. the g7 has a hot shoe so you can mount a different flash on it which could be useful in taking pics of fishes. if you got a couple more hundred bucks you can purchase maybe a used nikon d50 or wait for a few months and wait for the nikon d40 to come down on price.
