Getting Garter Snakes on dead food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I has a garter for about 8 years before my cat got it. It ate live goldfish for the first couple of years as I was under the impression that they only ate live. Once I found out they'd take prepared food I was ready to change. The snake took tilapia filet the first time I tried. Never went back to live. You'll be fine.

No, they eat other live prey too like earthworms, slugs, frogs, toads, salamanders and other small vertebrates.

There are some really cool colour phases as well, like the San Fra. (?) red ones....

they dont even have teeth do they? I have thought about keeping these before because I run into them so often.

They have teeth, but they are small and backwards curving, like tiny fish hooks, unlike those of the Tree Boa, which are like...big fish hooks.

That guys crazy, I used to catch wild garter snakes and feed them dead food like 30 sec. later. But feeder fish work really well too.

Don't feed him for up to two weeks. And then tong feed him some defrosted fish. It's gonna take a very stubborn or ill snake if he won't take it.
