So I just bought this blackbelt pair for $50. They were in a 125 community and have never bred. I now have them all by themselves. As you can tell by the pics, the male has a little HITH I am working on. He is about 14 inches and she is about 12 inches. The tank is a 75 gallon and the filtration is a fluval 205 canister and two emperor 400's. So I have lots of filtration for a 75 gallon. I also do weekly water changes, or anytime my nitrates get between 20-30 ppm, whichever comes first.

Please advise me on some ways that I might be able to encourage breeding. They have been together for 3+ years, but as I said before, always with other fish. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Tricks I use are, market shrimp, the protein helps ready the female. Turn up the temp to 88. I also add a dither fish. Like a 7" rd is my choice. Also let the water get a kill dirty then big wc. Ive had many fish start breeding as im filling the tank up. with that said, they might be to old to breed.

Good diet & lots of water changes

+1. This is the best way to encourage breeding. Hopefully if they do breed they won't become aggressive with each other. There's really no room to get away from an aggressive mate. Good luck with your pair!

You have one of my dream breeding pairs i want one of these just as bad a w wc festae pair, they dont even have to breed i just think theyre badass. Still theyre an awesome fish wether they breed or not haha

Call me crazy (and im sure will not hesitate to) but arent those two males? Have they been vented? If raised together two males will tolerate each other to a point.
