maybe ask the previous owner if they ever layed eggs,that way you can be sure that the smaller of the 2 is a female,unless you vent it.you can ask if they know approximate age of the fish,someone suggested maybe they are too old.or if they have HITH now,they could just need real good conditions to breed again.they are great either way
