Honestly, I didn't expect to get them today, the first breeder set went for more than I wanted to spend, but after talking with a few of the members, they all decided not to bid against the newbie...so I got a great deal. I did get outbid on any other fish that I wanted, but that was the only thing I REALLY wanted. Spent a total of $53, and got those fish, a stand for a 55, and a black light strip my husband wanted, think we came out good there. Could have spent hundreds!!!

Ok now I know who you are. I think that was 3 males and 1 female in that group. It should have been written on the bag.

Thanks to our great local cichlid club Lake Victoria fish flow around here like yellow labs do in other areas. I would guess there are at least 10 to 15 local club members that have breeding groups of Kyoga flamebacks.

Nice pick-ups. I miss my Rusties, they were the only fish to eat string algae.

Very nice. Maybe one day i willget a group of the flamebacks.

Lets bump this thread up! I wanna see pics. :D Where are the kyoga flamebacks at?

They still haven't colored up, and I don't get it...they eat like pigs, never hide, so I don't know why they aren't coloring. Checked my water perimeters, and everything is fine (I don't recall the numbers offhand, but everything checked out fine, my ph was 8.0, no ammonia, no nitrites, low nitrates).

I'm going to do a water change today, and see if that helps them to color up.

Do you think I need to add more fish? There are only 4 of them in my 55 gallon, and while there is no real aggression, there is a little chasing going on.

Thanks!

The tank must be very empty. How big are they again? I keep my colony in the 40 gallon with some nyerereis and peacocks and they seem to be more active. You should get more fish to make them feel more comfortable and safe, so that way they will come out and display.

Yeah, I'd say empty, they are about 4 inches or so. I was tempted to get a few more, but they'd be around an inch or so, and didn't know how well that would work. I was trying to keep it as a species tank, but I'd like to see some color in them.

Thanks!

You shoudl've gotten the one inch kyoga flamebacks to grow out. My kyoga flamebacks are with one inch nyerereis in a 40 and they are doing good. They are a peaceful species after all and you do have a big tank too. ;) Are you going to get more fish for the tank? I might be getting some rainbowfish to add to the tank to make my fish feel more safe so that they will come out more.

I can still get the 1 inchers, just trying to decide if that's what we want to do. I'm trying to get rid of a few other fish, then the mbunas are moving to a 125, and the Kyoga Flamebacks will move to the 75 gallon. At least that's the plan right now...LOL
