Getting new dats to eat. Help!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Give it time, why do you yanks always have to use live. My dat pictured here hasnt eaten for nearly 2 months and im not that worried. Keep the water spot on and try in another week or so, worms might work.

Don't worry, the Dat will eat in the end. I had an Indo that also did not eat for over 2 months, then it just started eating prawn. Just keep putting the food in, it will eat when its ready.

If your really worried give it some live River Shrimp, the movement will get it eating, also worms are good.

Thanks for all the advise. I did try diffrent foods and 5 of the 8 started eating shrimp.

Unfortunately I found the best looking ones dead this morning. He did not have any body fat and looks like he just starved to death.

Are all dats wild caught? I know that mine were and maybe thats why they are hard to feed? Any thoughts????

Thanks

Wow, 2 months.... That's a bit long but it all depends of the fish. Although I agree with all of the member's statements, I just want to add that this is not advisable for datnoids 2" and below. I once had a thinbar thats 1.5" and didn't eat a thing for 1 month and then it died on me. Right now, my NGTs are 3" so I'm feeling pretty confident that they can live through a couple of months with no food and just eat whenever they are ready.

As well as bloodworms I've found earthworms very successful too-bearing in mind they're not too big to eat. But 2 days is still very early days.

I was worried when my dats wouldn't eat too. So I picked up a bunch of ghost shrimp from petsmart and tossed them in...I just made sure there were enough shrimp to go around.

I also fed them frozen brine shrimp without a problem.
