I haven't been a part of the cichla craze for too long, just a year or so, but I'm already getting ready to head in a different direction with my tanks. Currently I've got 3 relatively young ones that I bought from Wes in my 1000g tank and I love them, but just time for something different. They eat way too much and I miss my planted community tanks I used to have, which is what I'm turning the big tank into. Wild-type Angels, misc small cichlids, cories and a fairly massive number of tetras all in a planted natural setting. I'm also building a 400-ish gallon tank for some of my other bigger fish that I've had for a while and getting rid of all my 75's. Just no room for cichla until my next massive tank build, which won't happen until we finish our basement in a couple years. When that happens I've got room for about 2500g which will definitely be cichla space.

I just wanted to show my appreciation for all the information you guys provide here which imo is unparalelled in the fish-forum world. Awesome people here and lots of knowledge floating around here. If it weren't for this forum I would never have gotten into cichla and admired them for the beautiful beasts they are.

what cichla do you have and will they be for sale?

If I do stick with my decision and don't turn the new build into the community tank they will be for sale. 1 Cichla sp. Sao Francisco, 1 Ventuari Tem, and an Azul of unknown origin. All came from Wes last year.

u will be back.
If I go at all lol. Barely begun prepping the 75's for sale and already having second thoughts. Would make it a lot easier to simplify my fish room if there were no bass, so they need to go.

Give em time!
It takes a couple years for em to really get poppin.
After that they just get better.
Most never really give em time to fully bloom.
Post more and stay more active in the Cream section and continue keeping REAL fish ;)

Trust me, I want to lol. I'm completely redoing my fishroom though and selling my babies off will help finance this other monster tank I'm building, not to mention the other improvements in the basement I need to make. I'm also redoing plumbing and electrical, to move my central heat/ac unit and washer/dryer to the other side of the basement, redoing electrical to accommodate 2 monster tanks properly, adding ventilation so I can smoke my cigars, and also doing new flooring. Lots of projects for this winter, so my fish collection will probably be gutted except for several fish that have been with me for several years.
My new tank is going to be 7-8 l x 3-4w x 3 t, so when all is said and done I should be ready for cichla again in addition to the monster community tank. Hopefully I'll be done with all this by the time next summer hits. Lots o' work though lol.

If you're doing all that work in the basement, why settle for a measly 700 gallon tank. Go all out... 10 X 5X 3- 1100 gallons :headbang2

I really don't want a tank that big down there, plus with a smaller tank I can get away with a simpler/cheaper build. I'm not sure how much longer we'll be in this house, but I'm not doing any serious monster tanks in this place. We've got 4-8 yrs in this house and then it's off to something better, unless we just wanna live here and enjoy not making mortgage payments.
