Getting porcupine puffer tomorrow

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks, yeah I'm happy with it, though I don't think i'll be adding much more to the tank now with how stocked it is.

I was worried at first after hear it was coming from aquacon and I read some bad stuff about them online, but my dad followed with them on the phone, and they even sent a $160 blue mask butterfly, because they didn't have the cheap one my dad ordered so they offered to send that one for no extra charge. I was definilty impressed with the quality of the fish and the quality of the packaging job! The temp in the bags was still 76F. and they all looked happy, although the butterfly's water looked pretty yellow from ammonia I would get from being in the bag!

Go easy with the feeding though, don't crash your system. Just take it nice and slow, your fish will be less stressed this way. They can take quite a beating too. Make sure you monitor all your params just to be safe if you have a mini cycle or something happens. Keep your ph in check as well. Stay around 8.2, anything lower or to much change causes porcipine puffers to become drunk and run into stuff. The one i had was really PH sensitive and my tank had a hard time staying stable.

Will do, I testing my params the night before I got the fish and everything was good, I will check again tonight.

Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
nitrate 15-20- I'm gonna try to get some cheato algae soon
PH- 8.2
SG: 1.023
temp 79
DKH: 7
Phosphates: .3 although I heard they can be alot but just being used by the hair algae that I have.
Calcium about 280.

I would not feed the puffer from a feeding stick. I have seen posts of people having the fish hit the food so hard they stab themselves on the stick. I used grabber tool for trimming plants. When I used the grabber by about day 3 the puffer would kind of hover by the food then hit it hard in a blast of speed so I stayed away from the sticks. About a week all the fish knew when I pulled the top back it was feeding time and would come up in order.
