Getting pups off earthworms and redworms

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No problem. I know a few of the big ray breeding facility's power feed their rays earthworms shrimp and fish fillet. As a result some rays breed for them as early as one year. After I found this out I no longer try to pellet train, I find the growth is slow on pellets as well

Ya screw Pellets, to expensive, slow growth and fouls the water compared to frozen fish/ worms

Wow...that's the first I've heard that. It does make sense to use fresh food tho...more natural. I have a ton of fish, everything from discus to saltwater, and the only fish I feed pellets to are my african cichlids. Mostly because they are filthy pigs...I actually regret ever getting into them! I'd prefer not to feed my rays pellets. I hate when I read the ingredients and there is wheat flour and such. I doubt a ray ever ate wheat or rice in the wild!!!

Ya it's my opinion I'm sure many disagree but I notice huge difference in water quality and filter ditritus from pellets to frozen. Mind you it's massivore I was feeding. I have a therory I think that more fungus and bacteria is easier established from the wheat and binders in the
pellets then with frozen. Mind you it might not be noticed with frequent WC and UV filters but I would definitely like to find out if it's true. Maybe someone on here can give more info about that.

I can buy into that theory for sure...what's your opinion on vitamin soaks? Are they really necessary? At the moment I'm not using them until I have more info. My rays are fat and healthy so far without them, but not sure how balaced a diet earthworms are, my rays ignore all other food right now.

Yes seachem has a great vitamin soak. Depending on what you are feeding though may not be needed
