Another thing, should I stop dosing a certain fertilizer or at least decrease a dose or something? I am using the Seamchems schedule at about 85 to 90% recommended dosage.
I really don't want my green algae coming back. I will be buying more plants next week.

or maybe I should get one of those cheap little CO2 deals that take tablets or something of that nature that is rated for a tank of my size or smaller, just to add a little flavor of CO2 ? unless my filter would just remove every bit of CO2 I put in the tank anyway..?
You would have to ditch your filter to get co2. Co2 would be ideal though. Get a small internal and run co2.

Well today the green slime algae has moved to my hornwort and is now starting to cover my flourite... This algae is getting incredibly worse each time I look at my tank.. What should I do now? I need this gone asap.
Should I do a 40% water changes every 2 days or what?

Also, there a little bit of daylight coming in from the side of my curtain and it shines onto my tank, is this a bad thing or will that be ok?

I really don't want my fluorite ruined from this green slime crap...:irked:

I thought my hornwort was having issues, but it seems ot be ok now. I'm doing a schedule fert dosing now since Friday and my plants are doing ok.

Green algae will always be present in a planted tank. MTS and otos will help keep it away. Green slime algae can be fixed with a higher level of co2, or a balanced CO2 to nitrogen and phosphate levels.

That's what I mean to say was Green Slime Algae.
I'll buy 1 or 2 more Oto's and some more snails and see what happens.
Seems like the 2 snails I have like to crap on everything? :nilly:
Looks like I really need to just get myself some CO2, I really don't want to spend 300+ on one now. When I do buy a real setup it will be the deluxe kit with PH controller. If I'm spending $200 I might as well spend a extra $100 :D I really need a cheap ass one for now just for my own personal experience, but I don't want fish health issues either.

This planted tank hobby I have started almost has nothing to do with fish and the question I have keep going in circles lol

I really need some books where I can just teach myself everything.

'Question from above'
Any recommendations on a good filter to use?
I really like the filter I have now as it takes care of everything that is loose in the water, but my main attraction now is going for a planted tank, so I will change if needed.
I always thought more GPH was better?

Maybe something like this would be good for my 29 gallon?

for a tank that small u should really think about diy co2...pressurized co2 is ideal but u might be able to get away with it...my buddy has a 29 with a diy 2 liter rig and gets about 3-4 bubbles per second...he runs two 2 liter mixes and a separator...so 3 bottles in total...i also experimented with this and got great results...im just 2 lazy to change bottles and make new mixture every 2 weeks...also u might be able to just a add a powerhead to ur tank with a foam pre filter and then make a mini reactor and use the foam pre filter as ur filtration...do u have alot of big dirty fish??...if not im sure u could get away with that as filtration with alot of plants...also it would be nice becuase u would have no surface aggitation...im gonna sketch up a idea...wyldfya ive seen other tanks use this method and have crystal clear water and a very clean looking tank...what do u think about it??... heres a quick sketch...i didnt include a needle valve or bubble counter in the sketch...

I read about this one here: http://www.qsl.net/w2wdx/aquaria/diyco2.html

To much trouble for me to want to mess with.

Dumping out the mess
Doing the rinsing
Refiling the bottles.
To many bottles sitting around my tank.
Risk of explosion, With my luck this will probably happen just before I go to sleep or while I was sleeping and rotten sugar water would be sprayed all over my walls, carpet, bed and all around and underneath my fish tank.

The DIY seems to be more of a pain in the ass to want to mess.
Sounds pretty cool until you start adding together all the things that could go wrong or have to do to maintain it..

GPH isn't everything. It's good for mech, but bad for bio filtration. It can be good if you don't run a filter in a planted tank to have more flow, to a certain extent. A good pH controller and Co2 kit is the Milwaukee MA957 and Milwaukee SMS122. These can often be had together for less than $200.

yea the diy bottles are a risk and pain...thats why i went pressurized...a pressurized set up incoorperated into a setup simular to what i showed u would work great...a decent power head with prefilter and a pressurized set up...do u have a heavy load in that tank or no??...if u dont its something u could consider...if not like stated before alot of surface aggitation and co2 is waste...and thats usually what happens with a hob filter

$200 is pretty good, I'll probably buy that kit then since my setup would only cost about $250 with a bottle. Still expensive but worth it for a 75 gallon tank when maxed out with plants.

My load is pretty light with small fish and they eat everything if that's what you mean by load?

My tank is on a home made stand and I would not be able to hide all the bottles and other things at all is why I don't really want to try a bottle setup. Otherwise it might be a interesting thing to try out.
My tank size compared to all the crap running into my tank is a little bit to much lol :D

I might try it on the 75 gallon next year when I get that set up, I'll have a store bought stand for that one to hide everything.

Watch ebay, I've seen that setup, with reactor, and bottle for $150.
