Getting sand for 75 today

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am looking for thin layer as well, don't want too much hassle of cleaning but don't want bare bottom tank as well.

Is it for the flowerhorn? With a thin layer he should keep it pretty clean with all the digging.

I personally never gravel vac since my substrate is thin. With persistent activity from pim cats, cichlids, or the barbs the whole sandbed is rearranged once a week it seems.

Yea for flowerhorns. I am hoping to not have to gravel vac as well.

I ended up getting all 3 bags, should be 3 cm thick as per my calculation based on description.

I have a 72x30 footprint and only used 4 20lb. of "sand". I definitely still need to vacuum since the sand holds everything at the surface. I suppose it helps fir the vacuum process and removing from the tank.

Typically I use 1 pound of substrate per 1 gallon of tank size to get a base of 1 inch. So you would need 4X 20lb bags.

I think 3 bags would give you total coverage without being too deep. I tend to use a thin layer of substrate in my tanks compared to other folks though.

Forgot to add, I only ended up using 2 x 20lb bags. Will return the third one.
